Maximum voltage listed in spec charts is an approximate limit that can be applied to motor when set-up properly. Any motor can overheat to the point of destruction if overloaded (too much prop, too heavy of a boat etc.) even when running well under the maximum rated voltage. It is critical to monitor motor temps and any new setup and adjust accordingly to keep temperatures in check (under 170F is recommended).
